Monitor the Ability of an Instrument to Detect Pre-Analytical Interferences

Hemolysis, Icterus and Lipemia (HIL) are the most commonly tested interferences that affect the integrity of patient samples in the clinical laboratory. Depending on the type and the degree of interferences, it may impact patient results when run with colorimetric assays. Fortunately, most major chemistry platforms include automated HIL detection feature that employs spectrophotometric detection to measure the level of common interferences.

Liquichek Serum Indices is intended for use as part of laboratory interference testing to monitor the ability of the instrument to detect Hemolyzed, Icteris or Lipemic (HIL) samples.

Resemble patient samples with human sourced material

Replicating relevant concentrations of HIL interferences using human-sourced materials adds confidence to instrument performance.

Compare instrument responses among peer groups with Unity Interlaboratory Program

An interlaboratory program can offer early awareness of shifts and trends to help avoid costly test repeats and unnecessary troubleshooting.

Frequently Asked Questions

I manually inspect for interferences in my patient sample. Why should I use Liquichek Serum Indices? Most chemistry analyzers now have onboard automated HIL detection to determine if the integrity of a patient sample has been compromised by HIL interferences. Liquichek Serum Indices can be run automatically to help assure that the instrument is performing as expected when detecting HIL interferences

What if I don't have time to track performance for each of my instruments for HIL detection? You can quickly and easily enter your results and track instrument performance in Bio-Rad's Unity interlaboratory program. In addition to monitoring the performance of your laboratory, you can also compare to other reporting labs using the same instrument.

Pre-analytical testing of the instrument to detect HIL interferences is not mandated by regulations, so I don’t see value in doing it? ISO15189:2012 supports the identification and control of non-conformities within the pre-analytical testing process. You may wish to include a product such as Liquichek Serum Indices as part of your individualized Quality Control Program (IQCP) to perform pre-analytical checks to monitor instrument performance to detect HIL samples.

I have several instruments in my lab, and if I decide to start performing this testing, I’m not sure your product will work on all of them? Liquichek Serum Indices works on most major chemistry instruments such as Abbott, Beckman, Roche, Ortho and Siemens.
